Dental emergencies are more common than you think, but whenever one does occur and there is tooth pain, swelling, or bleeding in the mouth, it is very important to contact our office as soon as possible. We’ll do everything we can to save the tooth and eliminate any pain you may be experiencing.
What to expect on your emergency dental visit at our office?
Tooth trauma can happen just about anywhere. Whether during sports competitions or a car accident, even playing at school or riding your bike, if urgent dental care is required, emergency treatment will help alleviate dental pain, prevent an infection from spreading and save the tooth. Visiting our dentists as soon as possible will increase the chances of saving a tooth and protecting your smile.
Urgent Dental Care
When you come in for an emergency dental appointment, we will take necessary x-rays of the concerned area and conduct an examination. Once we determine what treatment is required, our emergency dentists will perform the necessary dental care or schedule another appointment for your treatment as soon as possible. Your dentist will also prescribe you antibiotics and pain medicine as needed to alleviate your dental pain.
At the time of a trauma, there are measures you can take to help alleviate your pain and minimize the damage before receiving the necessary urgent care. After immediately calling our office, here’s what you can do:
● Knocked-out permanent teeth. Keep the area as moist as you can, and try placing the tooth back in the socket without touching the root. Otherwise, place it between cheek and gums- with milk if possible- to help preserve it.
● Cracked teeth. Rinse your mouth with warm water immediately to clean the area. Put a cold compress on the outside of your cheek to minimize swelling.
● Bitten tongue or lip. Rinse your mouth with water to clean the area and apply a cold compress.
● Toothaches. Clean your mouth with warm water and gently use dental floss to remove food caught between teeth.
● Objects stuck in mouth. Try removing gently with floss. Do not use sharp or pointed objects.
